Background |
|
National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) was established
in 1911. With a long-standing history and rich experience in
education, the University has been devoted to the cultivation of
technical professionals. The alumni of NTUT have contributed a
great deal to the economic development of Taiwan and won great
praise from businesses and industries of all kinds. NTUT ranks
at the top among more than 150 colleges and universities in
Taiwan, and was voted #2 as the most preferred college by
students¡Xgoing to graduate from school soon--in 1994 and 1996.
As the benchmark in the technical education system, NTUT has
offered ¡§Regulations for Applications of International Students
of National Taipei University of Technology¡¨, ¡§Joint Educational
System with Foreign Colleges¡¨, ¡§Selective Courses Enrollment for
Foreign Students¡¨, ¡§ Clauses for Students of National Taipei
University of Technology to Study in Cooperative Universities¡¨,
¡§ Clauses for International Exchange Students to Study in
National Taipei University of Technology¡¨, ¡§Course
Implementation in English¡¨ to realize internationalized
education and improve the international reputation of the
University. The University has enrolled foreign students; 2
master¡¦s candidates and 1 undergraduate student in 2002, 1
master¡¦s candidate and 2 undergraduate students in 2003, and
exchange doctorate candidate in 2002. The University has
designated a department to enroll foreign students, arrange
curricula, and assist in life adaptation. To execute ¡§A
Cultivation Program Between R.O.C. and the Republic of the
Gambia (for Gifted Students)¡¨, the University will coordinate
related teaching sections ad departments, and offer special
courses to cultivate managerial professionals for Gambian
Petroleum Industry, and establish fine international
relationship with the Republic of the Gambia. |

Purpose
and scope |
|
The University will integrate the teaching faculty from the
Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Materials and
Mineral Resources Engineering, Department of Business
Management, Department of Optical Engineering, and General
Education Center to cultivate managerial professionals for
Gambian Petroleum Industry. The University will offer special
courses to give gifted Gambian high school students an easier
access to related knowledge and skills, and promote the
Taiwanese culture to the Republic of the Gambia.

Curriculum planning :¡@
We will incorporate the teaching experience of the
faculty of the Department of Chemical Engineering,
Department of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering,
Department of Business Management, Department of Optical
Engineering, and General Education Center, and the
real-world experience of China Petroleum Corporation (CPC)
to establish curricula planning committee. The committee
designs the curricula and offers a bachelor degree
certificate upon the completion of the program.
Practical
training :
On-the-site practical training and tutoring courses will be
provided by experienced engineers from CPC. |

Background
of the Training Program |
|
To coordinate the policies of international academic and
technological exchange being promoted by the Ministry of
Education, and to utilize the educational resources of NTUT to
cultivate the gifted high school graduates from the Republic of
the Gambia, NTUT will cooperate with Gambian government to
enroll the students. Certificate from NTUT will be bestowed upon
the completion of the program. |

Content |

Faculty
:
The faculty is comprised of experienced teachers from the
Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Materials and
Mineral Resources Engineering, Department of Business
Management, Department of Optical Engineering, Physical
Education Center and General Education Center.
The courses are taught in English.
Curriculum
:
The curriculum is designed to be intensive. The full term of the
program is two years long. The curriculum is divided into
classroom and practical training courses with sufficient
flexibility. Practical training internship will be arranged with
CPC; besides, an introduction to managerial cases and Taiwanese
culture will be presented.
Expense
:
Tuition, books, lodging and food, and internship are paid by
Gambian Petroleum Company.
Tuition
:
All courses are taught in English. The tuition will be
calculated based on the policy of the Ministry of Education,
R.O.C.
Living
:
All students are arranged to stay in the university
residence hall. A sum of $NT10,000 per month is provided to each
student to cover the food expense. Advisors, teaching
assistants, and administrative assistants will be assigned to
assist their living. |
