  阮金菊 Nguyen Kim Cuc

  經營管理系大學部

Department of Business Management (Bachelor Degree)

Graduate Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Doctoral Degree)

This is my first time living and studying abroad. It’s a big challenge for me. One of my handicaps is the language because I haven’t learned enough Chinese before I came to Taiwan. But with the help of my friends, now I enjoy living and studying in NTUT, Taiwan. NTUT has a good academic atmosphere and friendly people. The teachers in NTUT have professional experience in industries so they can direct the students with industrial related application of the theories they learned in class. I think this is a big advantage for students in NTUT, Taiwan.

  Edgar Jonathan Juarez

  工業設計大學部

Department of Industrial Design (Bachelor Degree)

The multiculturalism at the NTUT is great. In Department of industrial Design, you need to enjoy making things work, whether its getting a design completed and verified, solving a problem or thinking about how to make the things look good and functional, is great to work with some equipment in the Workshop. Working hard is essential but you also need to enjoy what you do. I was fortunate, as an outdoors-orientated person, to find myself in this country and amongst people who help me to feel like at home. In my first semester I met my classmates and I was feeling very welcome; now I've had a great experience here, sharing with Taiwanese people and learning about their customs and ideas. Academically, my host department is oriented more practically orientated than I was used to, which was a challenging but worthwhile learning experience.

NTUT from different point of view

I'm European and Asia is absolutely distinct from what I am used to in almost every direction. Anyway, my very first feeling was simple shock. But I just didn't realize how different could Taiwanese environment and culture be so much different from Czech. We are not accustomed to spend almost all day long in lab with other classmates. Our classes are usually held for great number of people from the same department. But on the other hand, I found out that the system of education on NTUT is even much better than what I'm familiar with. What I appreciate here is the teachers´ willingness to advice us when needed.

For foreign students is often not easy to adapt to life in foreign country. But thanks to various activities arranged for us, international students, and thanks to many extracurricular clubs, the setting down is more fun. In my home country are not at all arranged so often such activities as precautionary courses, trips, parties or even concerts.

What else is also admirable is the Taiwanese openness and hospitability of the university staff. But honestly said, more English inscriptions or forms wouldn't be useless. In the beginning was absolutely necessary for me as a complete Chinese non-speaker to have a Taiwanese buddy who helped me a lot. But the progress in opening the NTUT doors for foreign students is pretty fast improving! It can be recognized even during such a short period from that time I arrived to nowadays.

And what to say at the end? I just would like to say good luck in opening your door to the world, because although it is a demanding and long-lasting procedure, you are definitely on the right way and I thank you for that very much! Otherwise I would never have the chance to live and even study in Asia, which broaden my horizons so much.
