Professor Cheng grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. In 1994, he completed his Ph. D. in chemical engineering from the National Taiwan University under the direction of Professor Wen-Yen Chiu. Professor Cheng’s doctoral research concentrated on the kinetic approach on complex crosslinking polymerization, including using a generalized numerical method and a novel algorithm of Monte Carlo simulation to investigate the network formation of polymers; then he worked at the Tuntex Petrochemicals Inc. In 1995, professor Cheng joined the faculty of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lung-Haw Junior College of Technology and Commerce, and served as Chairman of the department. He transferred to the Department of Chemical Engineering at National Taipei University of Technology in 2000.

Professor Cheng’s group does research on simulations in materials science and polymerization, kinetics of polymerization, and development of functional materials and nanomaterials. He has published over 80 articles in journals and at conferences, many in the kinetics of polymerization, and has been awarded outstanding researcher in the College of Engineering at the National Taipei University of Technology 2003. Professor Cheng has consulted with the Multiscale Simulation Laboratory at the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan. He is a member of the Polymer Society, Taiwan.
