Introduction
National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) is one
of the first few colleges funded in Taiwan nearly 100 years
ago. The NTUT’s Electrical Engineering program, one of the
first kind established in Taiwan, was formed in 1912.
Today, the College of Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science (EECS) is home to four departments, 100
faculty members, and more than 2,700 students. About one
quarter of all NTUT students are enrolled in this College.
The four academic departments under this college are
Departments of Electrical Engineering, Electronic
Engineering, Computer Science and Information
Engineering, and Electro-Optical Engineering. Each of
them offers Ph.D., Master of Science (MS), and Bachelor of
Science (BS) degrees.
We emphasize quality in teaching and research. All our
undergraduate and graduate programs will soon be
accredited by the Institute of Engineering Education
Taiwan (IEET), recognized by the Washington Accord.
The s e programs provide students knowledge of
fundamental principles and innovative technologies
through a rigorous curriculum of theory and applications.
The graduate program has over 140 Ph.D. students and
about 700 Master students in total. EECS is a broad and
expanding field. We have strong research and industrial
programs. The faculty members are actively developing
technologies ranging from devices to systems, from software
to hardware, and from algorithms to implementation.
In addition, we have a very strong tie to the industry. NTUT is one of the leading technical universities in Taiwan.
A number of the school alumni become entrepreneurs in
Taiwan information technology and electric-related
engineering industry. This, loyal alumni, is an important
and unique factor supporting the success and growth of this
institute.
College Objectives
-
To provide students with a sound and solid knowledge in
the professional disciplines of electrical engineering and
computer science, along with the required supporting
knowledge of mathematics, science, and liberal education.
-
To equip students with the skills needed in designing
experimental projects, solving problems, and organizing
and presenting information effectively.
-
To train our students to be future leaders in academia,
government, and industry with a deep awareness of
ethical responsibilities to our profession and to society.
-
To emphasize multidisciplinary and international activities
in both teaching and research.
-
To maintain a friendly, supportive and diverse
environment so as to help our students, faculty and staff
to achieve their best.
Academic Programs
The degree programs offered are mainly the 4-year
Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and
Doctoral programs. The applicant must apply for one of
following four majors (departments): Electrical Engineering,
Electronic Engineering (Graduate Institute of Computer and
Communication Engineering), Electro-Optical engineering,
and Computer Science and Information Engineering.
There are specific Master’s Programs for On-the-Job
Students. The applicants must meet the working experience
and other requirements imposed on these programs. The
Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering
Departments also offer Two-Year Continuing Education
Programs. In addition, there is an Undergraduate Honors
Program affiliated to the EECS College. The students
enrolled in this program can select any of the four
departments as their majors for graduation. A specific
Gambian Information Technology Elite Program is designed
for training the undergraduates from the Republic of Gambia.
International Program
- NTUT has been actively recruiting international
students in recent years. Currently the international
student population is over 160. Chinese language and
Taiwanese culture courses are offered with contents
specifically tailored to the overseas students. The
University provides dormitory rooms to every foreign
student and scholarships are generally available for
academically qualified students.
- Courses in the Gambian IT Program are Englishlectured.
Most departments accept international
students and offer professional courses in English when
requested. The CSIE Department graduate student
program is one of them.
History
|
1911 |
The Industrial School of the
Japanese Viceroy's Office was established at the
current address of National Taipei University of
Technology. That is one of the oldest industrial
schools in Taiwan. |
|
1945 |
Taiwan was liberated from the Japanese Occupation, and State Taipei School of Industry was renamed Provincial Taipei Vocational School of Industry. |
|
1948 |
Provincial Taipei Industrial Vocational School was upgraded to be Provincial Taipei Institute of Technology, offering five-year electrical engineering program. |
|
1953 |
A three-year program was established, admitting senior high school graduates to study electrical engineering. |
|
1961 |
A two-year program was established, admitting vocational school graduates to study electrical engineering. |
|
1994 |
NTUT was upgraded to be National Taipei Institute of Technology with 4- and 2-year programs. The two-year program admitted junior college graduates while the four-year program admitted graduates from senior high school and vocational school. The departments awards bachelor degree to graduates. |
|
1996 |
the Institute of Mechatronic Engineering was found by the join efforts of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering department. |
|
1997 |
National Taipei Institute of Technology was renamed National Taipei University of Technology. |
|
1998 |
The 5-year program ceased to recruit student. |
|
1999 |
College of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering was established. |
|
2006 |
College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was established. 4 Departments and 4 Graduate Institutes are transferred from College of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering to the new College, and Dr. H. M. Hang was assigned as the first Dean. |
Present
-
NTUT has an excellent reputation on her education
quality. According to a survey conducted annually
among major corporations in Taiwan, in each of the past
ten years, NTUT has stood out from more than 160
universities in Taiwan and was ranked second to ninth
of the best universities cultivating first-rated talents.
-
To achieve the goal of integrating theoretical knowledge
and practical applications, every undergraduate student
in this College is required to do a Senior Project and
every graduate student has to do a Master or Doctoral thesis.
-
The R&D activities of this College focus on theory and
on practice as well. The research expenditures of the
College were over NT$80 million in 2006 and 2007 and
increase at the rate of about 15% annually.
-
The Sunshine-Fund Foundation in the university
supports paper publications, international conferences,
and outstanding research works.
-
College Distinguished Teaching Award and College
Distinguished Research Award granted annually are
aiming at promoting outstanding teaching and research.
Features
The college offers four
master programs: the graduate institutes of Electrical
Engineering, Electro-Optical Engineering, Computer
Science and Information Engineering, and Computer &
Communication Engineering. Our undergraduate programs
comprise the departments of Electrical Engineering,
Electronic Engineering, Electro-Optical engineering, and
Computer & Communication Engineering. The total numbers
of full-time faculty are around 100. The four institutes
within the college have full-time and part-time master
programs. The four departments in undergraduate programs
have 4-year and 2-year programs. Besides, the
departments of Electrical Engineering, Electronic
Engineering in undergraduate programs also have 2-year
evening programs as well as weekend programs.
To meet the demands of our teaching and
research, there are complete instruments and facilities
in each department within the college to provide
students trainings of professional skills as well as
academic researches. For the education aspects, this
college cultivates practicable, hardworking, vigorous,
and worldview engineers to meet the demand for economic
construction and industrial development of our country
in the future. For the academic research, this college
elevates the level of researches continually to develop
the interaction of academic internationally. In terms of
the industrial service, this college encourages
cooperation between schools and industries. In order to
develop more advanced academic researches, this college
cooperates with other research institutes regularly,
thrives to engage in technological developments for
related significant infrastructures in our country, and
heads for first-class academic research institute.
There are 4 University Chair Professors and 3
